How to avoid a dangerous car accident

by | Jun 15, 2021 | Car Accidents

Part of driving is learning how to avoid the most common types of accidents. Even though not every accident is preventable, there are a few things that you can do to avoid the majority of them.

Whether it is a rear-end collision, hitting a parked car or crashing at an intersection, here are a few things that you can do to keep yourself and others safe.

Stay well away

The general rule is to stay at least three seconds behind the car in front of you. This helps to avoid a rear-end collision. If you are traveling beside someone, try to stay as close to the middle of your lane as possible. This can give you enough room to react if a vehicle stops fast or attempts to pull into your lane.

Avoid poor driving conditions

If you do not have to, don’t drive in harsh weather. You have poor visibility in rain, snow and other weather conditions. Ice, water and snow can also cause you to lose control of your vehicle.

Stay away from distractions

Distractions like your phone, GPS or map may cause you to look away from the road. Anytime your attention is not where it should be, you risk getting into an accident.

Don’t drive while impaired

Driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or lack of sleep can get you into a lot of trouble. Before you drive, consider how much you’ve had and whether it is safe for you to get behind the wheel.

Practicing these and other safe driving techniques can save your life.
